What are 40 things I should do before 40?

40 before 40.

My sister’s prepared her 30 before 30 list, and this has inspired me to do my own 40 before 40. I won’t be turning 40 until 5 years from now. Doesn’t it seem like a good time to put a list together? I’ll have 5 years to complete it! I won’t have an excuse that I didn’t have enough time!

I only came up with one item: Visit New York. Right. That’s completely wishful thinking, but who knows? A lot of my friends have suggested things I put on the list. Produce a playmate for Timmy. Go bungee-jumping. Bake a pie. Sew a quilt. Go mountain-climbing. Lots more! I’m super thankful that they have gamely pitched such awesome ideas. I am now taking my time in sorting them and coming up with more. Man, 40 is a long list.

Oh wait, I have a second item: Drive. Then again getting behind the wheel terrifies me. Maybe I’ll park that first.

I love lists. But I get overwhelmed most of the times because what I usually write are completely hard to achieve at the moment. I only have 9 months before I turn 30 and I seriously have 3 things in my list that I absolutely must do. Like you, I still have to learn how to drive. If only driving is as easy as maneuvering a bump car, I’d be a professional now.

I have a 40 before 40 list but… well, now I need to add to it to make my 50 before 50 list. (I have 5 years. Plenty of time. Right?)

One thing I wish I’d done before I turned 40: wear a fabulous evening gown to an all-out formal event. It sounds silly, but once that 40ish metabolism hit, I realized I’d never again look svelte in something so fancy. Plus, there’s the whole Cinderella factor: got to be home before midnight or the babysitter will turn into a pumpkin, and what happens to the kids then?!

    You guys are awesome!!!

Thanks a lot for the great ideas.

Cham: I’ve been racking my brain about this since I wasn’t very picky as a kid! Maybe I should put on my list something that I’ve always wanted to eat but haven’t bec. it’s in some faraway land. That’ll encourage me to travel too, if I can’t get that dish here in Manila!

Dea : Thank you for sharing your wonderful list! I loved how you ticked each off with the date when you completed it. Makes it look even more fulfilling. I’ll do the same thing on my future list! :)

    Jam : Italian’s the plan; let’s see!

Gene : Hahaha that’s true. Btw I can’t ride a bike either so that’s another thing to put on my list!

Eli : Something to mull over! Thank you Eli!

Katie B. : Yes, 5 years is plenty of time. ;) Dressing up really fancy sounds absolutely fascinating. And a lot of work. Hahaha, but that is something I’ll think about for sure!

Mitchteryosa : I’m sure they’re convinced na. Hehe!

itjcs : Wow! That’s ambitious but hey it can be done. Thanks for the suggestion!
