Nibbles at the 26th Negros Trade Fair

The 26th Negros Trade Fair is ongoing at the Rockwell Tent till Sunday, October 2. Go, go, go! I went nuts the day they opened. There are so many beautiful things to look at and eat. <3 This annual fair features Negrense products like furniture, decorations, fashion accessories, clothes, houseware, and my favorite -- FOOD. Here's some of the food I got from the fair:

Chicken Inasal Pate
Chicken Inasal Pate. I haven’t tasted this yet, but it intrigued me! The storekeeper said it’s one of their bestsellers. From the Casa Carmela stall.

Inasal marinade
Inasal marinade. Storekeeper said I could use this for adobo. That hooked me. From the Casa Carmela stall.

Batuan
Batuan. This is a souring ingredient from the Visayas region, and I’ve seen it in recipes for Sinigang. I’ve never tried Sinigang sa Batuan, so this is my chance! From the T Flavors stall.

Guma-a and Binoro Tuloy
Guma-a and Binoro Tuloy. Salted dried fish for breakfast, anyone? From the T Flavors stall.

Flat Piaya from Bob's
Flat Piaya
Flat Piaya. The piaya I’m familiar with are semi-flat, chewy discs. These ones I got were very thin and crispy. My Mom and sister prefer the more doughy ones. I liked these! If you crumble a disc into smaller pieces, I think it’d make a great topping for ice cream. It’d be good with mango ice cream, yes. From Bob’s stall.

Buttery Rosquillos
Rosquillos. These were yummy, but too buttery in flavor for me. From the El Ideal stall.

Senyorita Biscuis
Senyorita pastry
Senyorita pastry
Senyorita. These little biscuit sandwiches are perfect with hot tea! They’re crispy, a bit flaky, with a semi-sweet jam in between biscuit layers. I loved this dessert. From the El Ideal stall.

Masa Podrida
Masa Podrida. I haven’t opened this yet! But my friend told me it’s like a heavy biscuit. From the El Ideal stall.

Tasty Torta
Torta Delight!
Torta. Oh my god, this was sooo good. My sister described it as “parang sansrival na malambot na walang butter.” Of all my food purchases, THIS was my favorite. It’s like a crispy, chewy spongecake with cream and nuts. I can’t describe it properly but I’m in love with it. But sorry, I can’t remember where I bought it from!

Sate Chicken from Bob's
Sate Chicken. The ladies over at Bob’s said this was their specialty, so we gave it a try. If you like sweet sauces on your meat, or if you like sweet viands (period), this is the meal for you. I thought there was too much sauce that I couldn’t taste the chicken anymore. If I try this again, I’ll request for less sauce :)

Crispy Crablets
Adobo Flakes
Crispy Crablets. Chicken Adobo Flakes. Hmmm, come to think of it, maybe we should have had beer with these!

There was a lot more stuff I wanted to get but we had to leave. Some of these food items were presents from a friend, the rest I got on my own. I had a great time at the fair and want to return this weekent! I want to try “Pudpud” (think chorizo removed from its casing, then pan-fried), “Pitaw” (quail adobo) and check out the accessories. Maybe I’ll see you there? :)

Oh wow. I just had breakfast but I was suddenly hungry from all the pictures of food you posted. Masa Podrida is a childhood favorite. I esp love dipping it in hot milk! :) And the batuan is just perfect if you love your sinigang extra sour. Batuan is a staple in my mom’s kitchen because she loves to cook any kind of fish with it :)

I am so glad you got to try out goodies from the fair! Brought home some non-food eye candy too I hope. :) We really do have it foodie-good here in Bacolod. I’m stumped on the torta though… never come across it. I have GOT to find out where to get that… do us both a favor. :D
