I hate you Chaikofi!

Chaikofi stole my photos! I hate you Chaikofi.

I was wondering if the old coffee shop Chaikofi still existed, so I went online to find out. Lo and behold, I came upon their seemingly forever under construction site and saw they used my pictures without permission!

This is my original post about my Chaikofi experience…

And here’s my photo on their defunct site:

The least they could have done was credit naman the picture since it’s under an Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 2.0 Generic Creative Commons License. I guess that doesn’t mean anything to them.

And even if they don’t understand that, it’s common decency to ask permission from the picture’s owners.

I know their site seems dead, but it’s the principle of the thing! There I was wanting to visit the shop again after all these years and boom! I’m faced with my picture. They don’t even have contact details on the defunct site.

Hay naku Chaikofi, I used to speak so highly of you. And now, I hate you I hate you I hate you! Grrr.

If anyone knows how I can get in touch with the Chaikofi client, let me know! I’ll give them a piece of my mind.

Kainis!

That happened to the husband as well. Kung di pa siya napunta ng hotel for a meeting, di niya nakita na the hotel used his picture to promote one of their resorts using the husband’s pictures.

It seems like nothing is sacred on the www anymore, but stuff like this gets my goat! I hope you find some way to have them compensate you/credit you/take it down completely. Good luck, Toni!

Sobra naman yan. Hindi ba sila marunong mag produce ng sarili nilang material to promote their shops. Because of this I will never set foot in that coffee shop again. I hate photo stealer.

PUt watermarks na lang sis. Ako ganun na rin ginagawa ko kasi ba naman meron isang mabait na kinopya na yung photo ko nilagyan pa ng sarili nyan watermarks!!!grrrr!!!

Grabe. As if naman there’s no way for them to contact you and ask for permission. I’m sure they know where they nicked the photos from. You really should give them a good telling off, Toni. Aba! Companies pay good money on stock photos pa nga to use on their websites! Sana man lang ni-credit nila who took the photos and most especially, sana they asked your permission first. Hayyy common decency is not so common anymore.

Toni, I remember reading a story about a blogger suing one big Newpaper company in our country because they used his blog picture for one of their articles without asking his permission or anything like that.

Although blog internet laws are still unclear, I would assume that my blog is my Intellectual Property, and that I have copywrite on anything I post and the personal pictures I upload.

But anyways, this company should have asked for your approval first. They could have left a message on the blog itself if they couldn’t e-mail you. I mean, there’s just no excuse for this.

    Shame on them!

There was a similar case on marketmanila and on house on the hill/sassy lawyer (i think), plus another popular site. I don’t quite remember how their cases were resolved but I know the respective site owners raised the issues with the plagiarizers. Maybe you can drop them an email and ask how they went about it. Good luck!
