A New York Infatuation

I am fascinated by New York.

This attraction has led me to dig up old chick lit books situated in New York. To read New York blogs. Ask friends about their New York experiences. Devour Daily Candy’s New York section. Lap up New York Magazine. Look through New York real estate online. Review movies set in New York like “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist” and “Serendipity.” Listen to Jay Z and Alicia Keys’ “Empire State of Mind” on loop. Watch “How I Met Your Mother” over and over. I’m now thinking of re-watching “Top Chef: New York,” even though I wasn’t too fond of that season.

I’m not quite sure what triggered this fascination, but I’m hooked on reading about the city. It may just be a passing fancy. I’ve never been to New York. There’s a romance to New York that I want to understand, maybe someday.

Yes. Maybe someday.

What’s your New York story? Indulge me with your stories please while I live vicariously through them. Here’s something to put you in an Empire state of mind too.

I felt sad when a friend recently visited New York and got disappointed. I told her to go back during spring. :(

Anyway, what I love about NYC is that every day is totally a new day. You’ll never grow tired of the city because there’s so much possibilities in it, despite its size. The MET is an endless maze in itself. You can return to Times Square or Tribeca every day of the week and who knows who you’ll bump into or what you’ll come across. <3 I've always felt I have a long distance love affair with the city. New York during spring time is true love. Not just this time. Hahahah.

I’ll put spring in NY as part of my life plan. :D Hehe.

Maybe my Plurk theme triggered it? :)

    I love this song too!

    Pwede!

My first NYC experience was overwhelming. There were so much to see but so little time to take them all in. The city is so alive, I was afraid it’d eat me whole. The Empire State of Mind song is right. It felt like all dreams are made in New York.

I want to experience all this love about NY!

I was in New York for only a few hours but it left me fascinated. I want to go back and stay awhile. Eat hotdog. Watch Broadway. Linger.

Don’t forget Sex and the City, Spiderman and Two Weeks’ notice in your list. And of course, Affair to Remember!

breakfast at tiffany’s, midnight cowboy, serendipity, the brothers mcmullen…though the greatest new york film, for me, is “eyes wide shut” because it captures the true essence of new york – claustrophobic, depressing, culturally wild and unimaginable, and sometimes, like in the mind of tom cruise, you feel like you are the only sane person there…

I haven’t seen that film yet. Thanks for the tip!

I am lucky enough to continue to have a love affair w/ NYC since I live right outside NYC (and did live in NYC for several years). It’s awesome. You have to come visit. There is always something new about it even if you’re a New York City native.

Each neighborhood is unique and distinct. It’s not about seeing the tourist attractions at all. It’s about living in the moment and savoring the city’s own character.

So when you come, be sure to look me up!

I will Kat! Thank you for sharing your story!

I grew up in Manila and now live an hour and a half outside of New York but I still consider New York my city and myself a New Yorker. My family and a lot of my friends still live there so I’m there quite often. But at least twice a year, I have a date with my city. I take the train in early in the morning, grab coffee and pastries at Grand Central, then I walk out, and just walk all over. I allow myself to get lost in the streets (although I can never be completely lost in New York). It’s one of my favorite things to do.

G., I’ll look you and Kat up when I go there. Whenever that is. LOL!

I love NYC! Fortunately, for me, I can go there 3-4/year and have been doing so for the past 3 years.

It’s my favorite city in the whole world. I imagine living there as a single career girl :) Feeling chic lit life. hehe
