My New Life in Bullet Points

Baby Steps

  • I’ve become a morning person. Timmy’s morning feeds are my alarm clock. I get a wake-up call at 4 am, and by 4.45 am I’m preparing myself for work. No grouchiness included.
  • Taking a shower is now a luxury.
  • The conversations I enjoy most in a day are “googoo,” “acoo,” “gagaga,” and “geegee” exchanges.
  • H and I have breakfast dates instead of dinner dates.
  • I haven’t seen New Moon.
  • Poop intrigues me.
  • My lunch date is my breastpump.
  • I multi-task more — eating a sandwich with my right hand, typing out a research presentation with my left, balancing my pump on my thighs, while playing Cafe World.
  • H & I are learning to still be husband and wife, not just Mommy & Daddy.
  • Friday nights are spent partying with Timmy and H in the bedroom with Disney music in the background, the night light on, giggles going around induced by tickles and cooing. Then we’re zonked out by 8 pm.
  • I’ve tasted breastmilk. Hey, I have to know what my son eats!
  • My biggest daily worry is wondering whether I left enough breastmilk at home for the baby.
  • My other big worry is how I can get to express my milk if I have long meetings.
  • Trimming my baby’s fingernails relaxes me.
  • I find joy that my favorite Disney song (“Once Upon A Dream”) is now the lullaby Timmy likes hearing from me the most.
  • I’ve never been happier.

Interesting! this is my favorite: H & I are learning to still be husband and wife, not just Mommy & Daddy.

It’s tough eh! You really have to exert more effort to remember that you’re still husband and wife!

congratulations toni! i’m a regular reader but only comment once in a while. i am so happy for you and h :) my favorite is your last bullet point. i wish your family the best!

always look forward to your mommy posts :)

btw, what breast pump do you use, and what bottles do you use if you don’t mind me asking? i will be 38 weeks pregnant this coming saturday. i’m starting to worry because i only have a half hour lunch break each day and i know i will need that whole time to pump. maybe my boss will be more flexible, i am hoping. thanks again and hope you and family will have a great Christmas!

Hi Aggy! Thanks for the kind words. :)

    To answer your questions:
Infant bottles: I use Pigeon infant bottles. I got the small ones with the regulator. Buy extra nipples while you’re at it.
Breast pump: I use the Philipps Avent Isis electric single breastpump. It’s been a good pumping partner. :) If you’re pressed for time at work though, I suggest that you buy the double breast pump. It’s twice the price but you’ll pump in half the time, since you’ll do both breasts at the same time. I wish I had bought a double pump, but I don’t want to spend again!! :) I spend about 20 minutes per breast so that’s 40 minutes on pumping PLUS clean-up time for the pump. So I take almost an hour! That’s my whole lunch hour. During morning and afternoon breaks, I just close the door to my office and work at the same time I’m pumping. But if you would like to invest in a pump, I suggest go for double! I wish someone had told me that before I had bought a pump!

If you need any breastfeeding help, let me know. I can help you with tips on how to store your breastmilk while you’re at work, what cups would work best, what sterile bags are great, etc. Or maybe I should write a blog post on that. Hey, maybe I will. ;)

Good luck! Pregnancy is a beautiful thing, isn’t it? Have a safe delivery! Take care Aggy.

“New life” is accurate: I can’t think of anything that changes a person’s life as much as parenthood does! :D I can sooo relate to becoming a morning person; I was like that with Rafa too his entire first year. Now we’ve reached a bit of a compromise: I let him go to sleep a little later (9:30 or 10 PM) and in return he lets me sleep in a little later (around 8 or 9 AM), haha!

    That’s a good compromise! Hahaha!

I was wondering about New Moon but figured you’re busy and that your priorities have changed. Never mind that, you can always play the book in your head. Or wait for the DVD.

I had the privilege of looking after my nephew while my sister was giving birth. The experience was sweet, especially when he clung to me for no reason. It was a good time to bond with him. I didn’t mind missing my usual movie date or shopping. Babies do give us much joy.

I’m very blessed to have a good nanny and a great Mom to watch over Timmy while I’m out. So I finally got to see it!

Never been happier. – Aaaaw. Don’t mind if you haven’t seen New Moon yet. Just wait for the DVD. =)

No kailangan big screen for more Jacob yumminess LOL!!!

  8. Eper Says:

I agree with all of the above! We’ve never been night owls or party people but now more than ever, we are homebodies :) We didn’t watch New Moon at the cinema but made do with online streaming. If you ask my humble opinion, you’re not missing much. I didn’t like it at all, my husband as well.

Quino is turning 6 months old in a couple of weeks and Toni, everyday we are amazed at how fast he’s growing and wish we could turn back time! Exag noh?

But we really are living the best days of our lives so enjoy every minute of it :)

sometimes it’s a confussion learning husband and wife when the bundle of joy is arrived. I had this thought as well and my simple tips to share. think this simple equation of (couples) divideby husband and wife plus bundle of JOY equals to mummy and daddy and the total is GREAT FAMILY.

    Timmy is so adorable…

So glad to hear you so happy, my dear! I knew you’d take to motherhood naturally.
You know, I breastfed for 5 years, and I *never* tasted it! Not sure I would ever want to. :)
And yes, New Moon. I haven’t seen it either. Since having kids, I’ve seen more movies on DVD than in the theatre. Can’t wait ’til the kids can take care of themselves, and I can go on hot dates with my husband without planning ahead of time for a babysitter! :)
.-= Nenette´s last blog ..better with bananas in the sauce… =-.

    Thanks Nenette!

And I FINALLY saw New Moon!
