Random thoughts from a 3 am feeding
*Baby cries*
What’s the rule again? Start feeding with the breast the baby fed on last? Uggh, I can’t remember which one I fed him from. Which one looks less full…
Edward Cullen. He’d make a perfect nanny. He doesn’t sleep. All he has to do is wake me up when the baby cries and change the baby’s diaper so I can get extra sleep. Burp the baby too. Just have to make sure he’s hunted enough before babysitting duties.
Crap. I forgot to ask for a doctor’s certificate and my hospital records for my SSS reimbursement. When the heck will I have time to go back to the hospital for that? Ugggh.
Baby’s fallen asleep on the breast. Maybe he’s done? Oh wait, he was just resting.
I wonder when I can fit into my jeans again.
This is the most disorganized I’ve ever felt. I feel I have no control over anything! If I ever succumb to post-partum depression, this will most likely be the cause. Lack of control.
He smiled! My baby smiled! Sure it can be a gassy smile but it was a smile nonetheless. Aww, baby. Who cares if the room’s a mess? Who cares if I still have a bunch of files to organize? They can wait. Just keep on smiling for me.
He’s done. Time to burp.
He farted instead of burping. That counts, right?
He’s asleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. Hurrah, hurrah. I can finally get some sleep.
…
*Baby cries*
Oh man, what time is it?
4 am?! I was only asleep for 30 minutes?
What’s the rule again? Start feeding with the breast the baby fed on last? Uggh, I can’t remember which one I fed him from. Which one looks less full…

My keycode word is “laugh.”
Hugs, girl! It’s great that you still have your positive spirit despite the sleeplessness, etc.! I so agree about the “lack of control” bit: it makes us think, ‘no?, that parenthood is really about letting go. In a good way.
And if it gets really hard, manood ka na lang ng early episodes ng Jon and Kate Plus Eight, hehehe!
Oh and since you’re breastfeeding, the weight will disappear in a *SNAP*!

Ha ha ha! I love the way you wove Edward into that!
As for the rest…welcome to motherhood. I feel your pain and am so glad that I’m not losing that sleep anymore. On the other hand, I do miss my teeny, cuddly babies. Now mine are more interested in Playstation, television and playing with their friends!

So proud (& envious) of your breastfeeding success!
Hang in there, Toni, I promise it’ll get better. Quino’s turning 3 months tomorrow and he sleeps in 4-hr blocks now (hurray!)
And though it may not look and feel like it, these are the best days of our lives!

It’s nice to know that you are breastfeeding Timmy. If you’re interested, Rustan’s Makati will be holding it’s Baby Symposium with the theme “It’s Baby’s Time to Shine” on September 19. One of the invited speakers will be tackling about being bilingual at infantry stage. Godbless

I loved your early morning (and sleepless) thoughts. You made me smile so big with that Edward Cullen as nanny! And probably, Alice, too. =)

toni, you’re so tiny! the pounds will melt off! guaranteed. especially since you breastfeeding! i weigh less than i did before i got pregnant and i’ve only been to the gym exactly one time since 2005! hahah…
i read somewhere that moms put a safety pin by the bra-strap of the boob they last used to remember for next time.
i know how exhausted you must be (i’m still exhausted), but i’m sure you’ll fly through these “twilight months” in no time…i’d def. ask rosalie to babysit though! hahah

Ah yes, I can remember those newborn days. They will pass very quickly (although it doesn’t seem like it at the moment) and you will smile remembering them.

i think having edward cullen as your baby’s nanny would be hazardous to both you and your baby! he doesn’t crave for milk, you know.

Hi Toni! Congratulations on your decision to breastfeed, it’s really the best thing you can do for Timmy
I breastfed exclusively for about 1 1/2 yrs, Gabby is now 1 yr 9 mos. and thank God he is really healthy. He rarely gets sick, there was a time everyone in the house got flu and colds (including me and his daddy)… except for Gabby! And the few times he catches the sniffles, it’s very minor and doesn’t progress to a full blown cold/cough. And I really believe it’s primarily due to the breastfeeding
Anyway, I can so relate to what you’re going through, the memories of the sleepless nights, the confusion on where he fed last, and the frustration with logging the intervals between feedings and how long he’s been on each breast, not to mention the PAIN during the first weeks—are still very fresh in my mind. But I had a lifesaver back then, if you have a friend/relative coming home from the U.S. soon, or if you can have this shipped to you asap, I highly recommend this gadget — http://www.amazon.com/Itzbeen-Baby-Care-Timer-Blue/dp/B000MEB3GE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1252563002&sr=8-1 . It’s called Itzbeen, it’s a timer that very very conveniently tracks how long he’s been on each breast, feeding intervals, AND where he nursed last! My husband being the gadget person that he was (and him being the researcher of everything and anything for the baby) showed it to me while I was pregnant, but I dismissed it. After one week of breastfeeding, I was desperate for help so we had this shipped through Johnny Air Cargo. I got it in a week’s time, and I can’t imagine how I would have survived without it! And on the side, it can also track intervals between nappy changes, his sleeping time, or even intervals between medicines if he’s taking any. Totally worth it, totally indispensible for me
Hope this helps, and if you have any, as in ANY breastfeeding question, do email me. After a year and a half, and being a working mom like you, I can say with conviction that I am a breastfeeding expert already
Enjoy this time with Timmy, believe me, time will fly so fast and you’ll miss this soon

Despite the slightly whiny tone, which is perfectly normal, I’m sure you’re loving this bonding moment with Timmy. Precious.

believe it or not, things will get better in a few weeks (or months) toni
but i don’t think mothers will be able to get a good night’s sleep anymore. because when kids turn into teenagers, we then have to stay up waiting for them to get home from gimicks. and even when they have flown the nest, we will stay up wondering what our children are up to, lol.
sa ngayun, even my 7 year old still wakes me up in the middle of the night, especially when he has to visit the john
so it’s part and package of being a mum. i’m still a zombie at this point, with my 9monther siopao and the kuya, but my brain has coped with it and is starting to function normally again (who know’s what’s normal at this point). lol.
enjoy the bonding time
