Join a Birth Club

It helps to talk with Mommies who are in exactly the same stage of pregnancy you are. The discussions in our little community have been a helpful barometer in helping me understand what’s going on at my stage of pregnancy.

Sample topics: “33 weeks! Have you packed your hospital bag yet?,” “My toddler jumped on my 29-week belly!,”, “I’ve been getting this kind of discharge…,” “Has your pelvis been hurting more and more?,” “Is it normal for feet to swell this much at 26 weeks?,” “My baby weighs 4 lbs. and I’m 30 weeks. Isn’t that too big?,” etc.

Since we’re all expecting to give birth on the same month, the experiences are more similar, which brings about a better, more real understanding of the things we’re going through.

I joined the August 2009 Birth Club in the Babycenter Community. It’s been interesting reading about other Mom’s experiences. I’ve found support and assurance in their pregnancy stories.

Just find the group that matches your due date month and sign up. There are many pregnancy sites that offer birth club communities. You’ll find that a lot of Moms are very eager to help, answer questions and share their own stories!

A word of precaution: learning from other Moms’ experiences is wonderful, but always make sure to check with your OB/practicioner before taking action on anything. While the board’s discussions are indeed a helpful barometer for your pregnancy experiences, it’s not the sole nor the most reliable one.

Now, go bond with Moms who’re sharing the same due date month you are! :)

hi! i belong to the august 2006 birth club of babycenter.com. yup, it is very helpful…especially the tips that you get from your fellow moms. it can be very entertaining too. i didn’t know that even in cyber groups, there can be cliques too and the drama…omg! the group is still very helpful post-delivery. you can see how your baby develops vis-a-vis his “classmates”. there is drama there too – pro circumcision/anti circumcision, pro-ear piercing/anti-ear piercing, BF vs formula, cloth vs disposable diapers.

That’s right! It didn’t come to mind that I’ll still be a part of the group even after I give birth. LOL.
