Trying to eat healthier
After tracking my food intake the past two weeks, it was pretty obvious that I needed to eat healthier. The good thing is that I’m not into salty food, but my sweet tooth has been throwing tantrums when it’s not satisfied. Krispy Kreme and chocolate marshmallows made an appearance in my meals here and there. I’d justify that I’d only take one piece, but after looking at my two-week food tracking… well, let’s just say all those sweets add up. Ugh. I really need to eat healthier.
Yesterday was my first attempt at being more meal-conscious.

Whole-grain cereal with raisins, bananas and strawberries. While I’ve never had a problem eating cereal for breakfast, it’s different now that I’m pregnant. A bowl of cereal used to last me till lunch. This bowl of cereal lasted me till my mid-morning snack of Roti Prata, curry dip and a bowl of strawberries.
I’m trying, I’m trying!
Other health steps I’ve been taking: I’ve cut my rice intake to half a cup per meal and am continuing to load up on vegetables. I’ve cut down on meat and am more into fish. I eat at least AND at most 5 servings of fruit daily. I take my pre-natal vitamins everyday. I drink at least 2 liters of water daily. That’s what I’m proud of, really. I glug water like a fish.
This morning, I packed two apples and two pieces of cheese in my snack bag for work. Healthy snacks for the work day!
As soon as my sister picked me up for work, she handed me a packaged pandan cupcake. “You want?,” she invited. I accepted. That would make for a good picker-upper in the afternoon, I thought.
Then she took out a sandwich bag with 6 pieces of chocolate chip cookies. “You want?,” she invited again.
Uh-oh. “All that?,” I asked.
“Yup. I have also,” she took out another bag of cookies for herself.
Awww. Who can say no to such thoughtfulness? And so I accepted. The cookies are now in my snack bag beside my healthy apple and cheese slices.
I promise to pace myself with the cookies.
I’m trying, believe me, I’m trying!

It’s perfectly alright to indulge in sinful food every once in a while. Don’t deprive yourself too much. Besides, I think you normally eat healthy, anyway. I hope I can drink as much water as you do in a day.

Great job for trying!
Eating a lot at this stage should be normal and accepted BUT (and yes, there is a BUT) of course too much of some stuff is bad; there concludes SUGAR intake. Here in US theres more likely three and eight women gets gestational diabetes. Im not trying to scare you or anything just to an alert and/or a lil reminder.
I love hearing your pregnancy progress.

Kudos to you!
Quaker Oats makes this new cookie versions of their granola bars. There are 3 cookies in a pack and are very low-cal. So far I’ve only seen them in some Select convenience stores at Shell. You’re almost at the finish line pala!

Confession: in my final month, because I knew I was going to give birth soon (and I had this thinking – not sure if true – that the baby had already developed by then) I gave up all resolve to avoid sweets and ate as much as I wanted. Hehe!

You should be commended for trying hard to eat well… lots of people I know (myself included) just used pregnancy as an excuse to eat LOTS and POORLY.
You’re doing great with the breakfast… I know how hard it is to stick to good eating habits, so really, kudos.

Go Toni! Load up on protein and it’s good that you’re taking your prenatal vitamins and drinking lots of water everyday.
I am still underweight as of my last check-up. In fact, I need to gain weight and take steroids just in case I have to undergo a scheduled CS (so the baby’s lungs will be fully developed and won’t need to be incubated). I also have to be monitored closely to check if the baby is developing well and so next week I go back for another ultrasound (I just had one today).
Stay healthy!

i really admire your determination. It’s so difficult to stick to healthy food sometimes noh? Ako din, i’m trying to eat healthy, (specially with the way I ate when I was vacationing in Manila). What i did, I bought myself a blender and i try to blend fruits and/or veggies and add a little bit of honey and non fat milk so that i have more fruit/veggie intake in one sitting.
