Our growing family
Thanks for the warm wishes everyone! H & I are ecstatic with this little boy growing inside me. I’m feeling his nudges everyday now, and they are always the highlight of my day!
H and I celebrated finding out the baby’s gender with our families last weekend. We presented both families with one pair each of cute little baby boy slippers! To my in-laws, we gave Thomas the Train baby sandals. To my family, we gave Spiderman flip-flops. We asked them to keep the slippers, as they will be Timmy’s footwear when he comes to visit their homes soon. I look forward to watching Timmy take his baby steps in them.
How do you grow a baby boy? I come from a family of mostly women, so baby boys are gems! I have heard there’s a certain way of raising boys versus girls, and would love to get your thoughts on that. Is there a difference at all?
And now I wonder… will Timmy be a Mama’s boy? Uh-oh!
What I know for sure is I’ll love him to bits!

Little Timmy will be a Mama’s boy and a Daddy’s boy too, because he will surely be loved…

sis, a lot of U.S. presidents were mama’s boys… so go, go, go Timmy
one thing I still struggle with when raising my boy is allowing him to run all he wants… so that he’d know how fast he can go. they’re tough and they’re rough… and now I don’t know how things will be with a kikay little girl because my son is currently clothes-less and has just fallen off his bike (because he was standing on the seat)
and he touched a huge spider yesterday… tried picking it up…
so how do you grow a boy? prepare to shriek a lot of times before doing the comforting words and hugs

timmy’s going to be a mommy and daddy’s boy.
if you need help, i’m willing to help. having 2 boys and helping raise my 2 younger brothers earned me a few wisdom here and there.
congrats again! looking forward to more timmy updates until he comes out!
have smashing pregnancy!

Oh, you cut your hair! It’s long the last time I saw you. You look younger! Nice shirt, Toni. =)

congrats toni
what i learned from taking care of my two younger brothers, and from having a daughter — when changing the diapers of a baby girl, have something under her butt to catch wiwi if ever. when changing a baby boy naman, have something to cover his birdie, so that when he makes wiwi bigla while your changing his nappies, hindi ka masha-shower! hahahaha!

I have no basis of comparison because my first-hand experiences of babies were both with boys (my younger brother and my son) and I was an only girl. But here are some of the things I’ve observed:
(1) There are SO FEW CLOTHES for baby boys compared to clothes for baby girls. Just compare the size of the baby boys’ department to the baby girls’ department in any department store.
(2) They say that girls usually learn to talk and socialize earlier while boys learn to walk earlier. I don’t know if that’s true, but my son is 6 months old and he’s already starting to walk with support (I’ve learned the correct term is “cruising”: walking while holding onto something). But he doesn’t do close-open yet, while my friend’s daughter was already doing it at 6 months. So maybe it is true.
(3) Dads use their sons as an excuse to look at toys in the mall …. Hehehehe!

What a sweet family photo
Congratulations!
I come from a family of women too and I always wanted a brother growing up so I was hoping for a son with every pregnancy. But, it was not to be, we’re still a family of women and we now all swear we wouldn’t have known what we would have done with a boy.
But hearing Mec’s stories and being around boys, I still wish I had at least one mama’s little boy
I believe they stay your baby longer than do girls.
BTW, I love the presents you gave your parents to announce little Timmy’s arrival. You always have the most unique ideas!

Oh sure! Boys are totally different than girls, however, I think with each child you just have to take it one day at a time and go with the flow.
Congrats on your boy, the celebrations sound precious!

there’s actually a book called “raising boys” — might want to get hold of that. actually, this is an issue a lot of societies deal with, especially since most boys’ early years are mostly spent with women — the mother, the preschool teacher, school teachers. yes, the father is there, too, and there are male teachers as well, but in reality, children spend more time being around women than being around men during their early years, di ba?

Raising a boy is a challenge. There needs to be the right amount of tenderness and strictness. It has to be right since they are boys and more likely to be strong willed and hard headed. But everything becomes compensated the moment they say “I love you Mommy!”

Congratulations on your baby boy! I am expecting a boy as well at the end of August. Although this is our second baby, it still feels like everything is new again. I’ve been a fan of your blog for more than a year and I’d like to thank you for sharing tidbits of your life with us readers!

congratulations toni! i can relate to your musings about how to raise a boy. i come from a mostly female family too. whenever my husband tells me stories of his childhood escapades with his two brothers, i just wonder if having a boy will be so… violent. LOL! or at least messy and magulo. i’m almost scared of having boys but i guess it’s good that my husband will be around to keep them in line… or not! i look forward to learning from your kwentos!
