Anthony Bourdain and Filipino Food

It’s old news by now that Anthony Bourdain came to the Philippines to shoot an episode for his hit show “No Reservations.” You might have probably seen the episode too.

I love Anthony Bourdain. I love his rebel-without-a-cause personality. I enjoy learning from him. I watch his show on TV even if it’s a rerun. So how many times have I seen the Philippine episode online? Maybe twice. And I think I’ll watch it a lot more too.

The ironic thing is I AM in the Philippines and the food featured in his episode is quite accessible. I can go Chinatown anytime, have a Dampa experience, eat lechon. So why do I need to watch the show again and again and again? I really enjoy listening to Bourdain’s insights and perspective on Filipino food. He should come back to the Philippines and do a comprehensive regional culinary tour. :P

And he did say we have the best pig in the world. Woohoo. He should come back for seconds. Go Marketman! And wouldn’t it have been great if Anthony Bourdain could have met with Doreen Fernandez? Oh, that would have been a wonderful moment. :)

If you’d like to view Anthony Bourdain’s “No Reservations” Philippines episode, read on. Thank you to ArcApex for sharing this videos.

And now I want some sisig and lechon. And crabs in coconut milk. And fishballs. And pinapaitan.

I LOVE Filipino food. :)

I’ve been wanting to do that Claude Tayag tour for a long time now. From what I hear he has two types: the first is one full day (from breakfast to midnight snack), sampling Filipino (mostly Kapampangan) dishes. Another is a shortened version where he feeds you for one extended lunch. My relatives who flew in from abroad last month did the shortened one. Maybe when Rafa can eat solids already, hehe!

Yah, it would’ve been nice if he had met Ma’am Doreen. Actually he also could’ve spoken to Dr. Zialcita; Dr. Z has a lot of really profound insight about Philippine food; he teaches a course about it in Ateneo.

Someone should do a TV segment on the different kinds of adobo around the Philippines. That would be cool. :)

I watched the whole episode at least 3 times! I love Anthony Bourdain too even though he talks bad about Rachel Ray :P

…and right now, I don’t even want to think about lechon. *sigh*

He just has no love for Rachel Ray. It seems he drops an insult for here everytime he’s interviewed. Example, here’s what he said regarding her advertising Dunkin’ Donuts:

“She’s got a magazine, a TV empire, all these best-selling books — I’m guessing she’s not hurting for money,” Anthony ranted re: Rachael in a portion of the interview republished in the New York Post’s Page Six. “She’s hugely influential, particularly with children. And she’s endorsing Dunkin’ Donuts. It’s like endorsing crack for kids.

Hahahahaha! That crack comment cracked me up. There IS truth in that!
