Steamed buns filled with…?

What's in those buns?

Can you guess what these steamed buns were filled with? It looked like this:

Custardy filling... delicious!

I have no idea what it was, but it was delicious! It tasted like custard. Sweet, sticky custard. But I’m not sure. It was a tasty treat served to us in a restaurant in Hong Kong.

Why it didn’t occur to me and my friends to ask the restaurant staff, I don’t know. Must have been the MSG slowly wiping away our memories… just kidding. :P

Perhaps you know what it is?

I haven’t encountered those HK buns, but I’m familiar with the local version of custard-filled buns. They’re called PASTEL, and they’re the staple pasalubong from Cagayan de Oro or Camiguin. They’re fillings range from custard to ube to many more flavors. =)

Love your blog, Toni! And I’m a Twilight fanatic too. =)

Hi Vanessa! Thanks for the visit. I’m familiar with Pastel and love it. I look forward to that pasalubong when friends go to CDO, hehehe. And nice to meet a fellow Twilighter!

Well, it might be good not knowing what it was. Coz if you do, you might not like it anymore. Isn’t that the way it is with other kinds of food? We like it at the beginning and then when someone tells us what kind of food it is, we wish we can throw it all out from our tummies. But I have to say, from the picture, it does look yummy!
