Have you been poked lately?

The past few months I’ve been involved in food fights, made friends with aliens in my own solar system, been called names, written on walls, kicked ass and got beaten in games of Scrabble, grown more than a dozen potted plants and have been poked a lot. And it’s all good fun!

I’m talking about Facebook. I’m so addicted to it. In my opinion, Friendster has nothing on this one. I like that Facebook is highly interactive and has so many applications that make the whole social networking experience fun.

For example, I have a pet in my Facebook profile. This pet of mine can be petted and fed by my Facebook friends. It’s really cute when I see who’s given my elephant candy corns or patted him on the head.

And then there are the many virtual gifts you can send friends. From potted plants to ice cream innovations to naughty sexy presents, it’s quite thrilling to receive a little virtual package from a friend of yours, especially if it comes with a personal note.

Then there are also the many groups you can join. One of the groups I belong to is called the Cloud Watching Appreciation Society. Members post cloud pictures from around the world and we are free to read the clouds. (Interestingly, there seem to be a lot of pig clouds around the world.)

Yes, I am quite Facebook-addicted. I like that the applications keep you more in touch with your contacts, that you can communicate with virtual booze and portrait doodles rather than simple messages. While it not only livens up those relationships, it’s also a good tool to make your friends know that you exist. If you choose to, that is. That’s what the status updates are for.

And now I have to go. One of my opponents on Scrabulous just made a move and I want to lay down a Bingo. Someone also threw a sheep at me — maybe I’ll throw a chicken back at her. I also got a notice that a friend has sent an Appletini my way. There are also a few people I have to poke.

I’ll catch you later. ;)

i’ve been hearing a lot about facebook (or Myface–hahaha), both good and bad. i’ve registered already, but haven’t had the effort to start anything. parang ang hassle kasi to rebuild a network…
well, anyway, i hope i’ll have time soon to explore it.
    have a nice weekend toni!

MyFace hahahaha. I find myself making that same mistake also lately. Parang natanim kasi sa utak ko! Tsk tsk. When you get the hang of Facebook it let me know! :) I’ll throw a sheep at you!

woo hoo! scrabble partner :) I’m addicted to facebook too – the thing is, it’s very pleasing to the eye compared to friendster or myspace. I’m sick of having to see people pimping their myspace/friendster pages and hearing nasty mp3’s playing in the background as soon as you go on someone’s page.

It’s nice to be in control of things you’d like to see, accept, poke, play, prod.. etc etc – on top of it, Facebook is more Globalised I think.

I agree with you and having something more fun with interacting with other people in your network – I describe it as an Adult Myspace with extra apps!

sige.. got to decorate my room there, play a move in our game and send Friday drinks :)

See you around Facebook buddy :) – B xox

Hello to my first and fave Scrabulous bud! Yes, Facebook is indeed more pleasing to the eye. I likes it streamlined look. If this were the blogging world, it’d be Wordpress and Friendster would be Blogger. Something like that. :D

    Hi toni!

It seems like you caught the face book craze! Just swinging by to say hello!

Hi Mina! Thanks for dropping by. :)

i like facebook too pero i could hardly keep up with everything that goes on, hehe.

Korek! Ang daming nangyayari. Hindi lang ako mag-log-in ng dalawang araw eh ang dami nang lumilipad na sheep at pokes.

  7. bh Says:

now it has come to pass
hokey pokey is really what it’s all about.

It’s not really hokey pokey. I guess it’s a matter of perspective.

  8. tin Says:

i agree, addicting talaga ang facebook! wish i have the time to tinker with it though..

I make time to tinker with it. Sometimes I get sucked into the blackhole though. Isang oras na pala lumilipas. Nyek!

  9. Leah Says:

Havent had the chance to play around the Facebook features. I’d go and visit and give you a poke for sure.

    And I’d poke you back!

  10. Daphne Says:

Ha! Facebook is indeed addicting that I try to wean away from it so I don’t get sucked into its numerous features. It would take me sometimes almost an hour just to go through the notifications hehe

Wow ang dami namang notifications non. :D Popularrrr!

hindi ko pa nama-maximize ang benefits ng facebook account ko. hindi ko maintindihan hehehe :)

    Madali lang! Kaya lang time-consuming.

  12. Kay Says:

It took some time to convince me to join Friendster. It will take some more time to convince me to join Facebook. Myspace failed to sustain me but Friendster is doing good. Hehe

Ay naku, MySpace totally didn’t engage me. I found it too cluttered and complicated. Must be age. Haha!

  13. aloi Says:

ewan ko ba sa mga social networking .. it is getting out of control! :) i can’t even manage my friendster account ;)

Naku ang Friendster ko napabayaan ko na.

In the special issue of Time Magazine Heroes of the Environment dated October 29, Joel Stein has this funny article about Facebook. His blurb says “you are not my friend. Yes we’re on Facebook. But I don’t care about your cat. And stop poking me” He was basically lamenting the fact that these social networking sites tend to take too much of our time and how intrusive it can get that nothing is private anymore. I agree! :)

That does sound hilarious! Ah well, in the end these social networking sites are just machines. We still choose what to share so it’s up to us what we want the world to know! :)

  15. thess Says:
