How I said goodbye to my medicine kit headaches

Me: (calling from the bedroom) Husby, my head is aching. Can you get me medicine please?
H: (goes towards the kitchen) Where from?
Me: The medicine kit.
H: Where’s that?
Me: It’s in the cabinet under the blender.
H: (gets kit out, opens the kit) Which medicine?
Me: (sighs) Look for the red and blue pills — please get one for me.
H: (shifts through several tablets and capsules) Where are the pills?
Me: It’s in a little container from Mama.
H: (goes into the bedroom with a glass of water) Here, Wifey.
Me: Thanks Husbo.

This incident inspired me to organized my medicine kit. My medicine kit used to be a mess of tablets and capsules, one that further worsened my headache when I needed a pill right away. All you want is for the pain to go away but having to sort through all those foil and mats of medicine just doesn’t help. So one afternoon, I made time to sift through my medicine kit.

Organizing the medicine kit. This tin can used to be a box of chocolates!I threw out all the expired ones. Much to my dismay, there were quite a lot of expired capsules and tablets. My bad, I wasn’t keeping track. And then I put all the cough medicine together, all the headache pills together, all the runny nose fighters together, etc. You get the idea. Once segregated, I put each group of meds into a resealable sandwich bag, and labeled it accordingly. The box of meds is now much more organized, neater and not a pain to sort through anymore. Whew. I think I can bid my headache-inducing-messy-medicine kits adieu!

(And now to get started on my messy First Aid kit…)

I have a canister (our medicine ‘box’) full of tablets and capsules. They are mixed and disorganized. Last time I was sorting through them, I also saw a few expired tables and threw them away.

Nice thinking! Putting them in zip bags and organizing them based on usage is a great idea.

I hope it helps you too! Let me know how it goes.

does this mean that you said goodbye to the headache too?
or is it still on a rampage?

No more headaches!!! Well, for as long as I don’t look at the stubborn dustballs, some cobwebs and some unwashed dishes in the sink…

I’ve done this already … call it the OC in me but I actually bought an organizer for this concern … I had them all segregated and stacked … hehe … good job on that one!

Good for you!! How about your First Aid kit? Can you share any tips on how to put one together? What stuff I should put in it?

  4. Lisa Says:

I may be the only person left in the world to not have a first aid kit at home.

Any plans of putting one together? I have no idea what proper stuff I should put in there. Perhaps the much-needed band aids, wound cleaners…? Nuninu.

surprisingly, my medicine cabinet is the most organized cabinet in the bathroom since we moved here in February. hope your first headache is gone :)

It’s gone! It’s gone! But that darn first aid kit I haven’t gotten around to fixing yet. If I don’t think about it, my head doesn’t ache. Hahaha!

Miss you Toni! Is there such a thing as a Miss You pill ??hehe

Thanks, that reminds me that our “medicine bag” (a free bag from Biogesic that I keep in the bathroom cabinet) is full of expired meds. Have to go to the drugstore soon!

I was surprsied by the number of expired meds I had. Eek. Sige tama, do a check na rin of yours. Who knows when we’ll need those meds right?

  9. sha Says:

here at work we have a file that sort of directs you to which med for what..
or what symptoms you have and what we have onboard so the box does not get messy
everything else inside the box are numbered according to the reference sheet…
sa bahay ko i have a small box inside the cupboard for this halo halo nga lang ;-)
but since i travel a lot i have a small ziploc with all my basic med.

Wow! May reference sheet pa! I was supposed to put small index cards per bag as a reminder of dosage, ganon, pero tinamad na ako. Hahaha!

hi, toni! It’s been awhile since I stopped by here. But i read your post on setting the timer while organizing the house. I did it yesterday and it helped a lot. I got competitive with myself too. I wanted to see how fast I could do my chores.

Hi Pat! Thanks so much for visiting. I’m glad the timer tip helped! You and your clean home are both winners.

At least yours is in a box. Mine is in a giant ziplock bag. It’s awful!! My husband bought me a tiny “cabinet” like thing with a place for labels. So far it’s still in the plastic bag. I’m really so tamad to organize it. Just thinking about it gives me a headache :)

Hehehe I can imagine! I used to have plastic bags full of things too and they didn’t really help. Sometimes I’d lose the plastic bags. Eep!

Those expiration dates have a funny way of creeping up on you! I have a drug box complete with a few To Go kits. It alleviates the packing stress. Also, great for guests who are on the run.

To Go kits are great ideas! :)

  13. mich Says:

this reminds me to organize our medicine kit, i have a box full and halo halo lang lahat dun.

Hi Mich! Ganyan din ang med kit ko dati. Now I appreciate its being organized so much more. :)
