Everyone has a story
There’s no such thing as a boring person. Maybe you just don’t know that person well enough.
Here’s the back story.
Some colleagues and I were getting ready for a presentation. We had to wear the color red as part of our group’s “look,” but I wasn’t wearing red (that’s a different story). One particular lady decided she wanted to help me get the team spirit.
Lady: “You want to borrow this?” (points at her red leather wristband with studs and spikes)
Me: “No, that’s alright. Thanks though.”
Lady: “Sa bagay. If you have a boring personality, hindi babagay.” (“It figures. If you have a boring personality, it won’t suit you.”)
I looked at her with raised eyebrows, but she just fiddled with her wristband. While it wasn’t a direct attack, I felt really offended. First of all, I hardly knew this girl. While we worked together, we never had a personal relationship. Secondly, I felt bad to be labeled as “boring.” Just because I’m reserved, it doesn’t mean I’m not interesting.
This happened more than a year ago but I remember the incident like it happened only yesterday. I know I’m not perfect, but at least I don’t go labeling people so negatively especially if I don’t know them too well. I admit that it hurt a little bit, you know? If you were told you were boring, how would you feel?
I also got really offended because I believe there’s no such thing as a boring person. But then again, those are my beliefs, not hers.
Everyone has a story, but not all of them say it loudly. Perhaps if you get to know them, you’ll start to see beyond how they dress and how they act, and you’ll realize how what once seemed boring was interesting all along.

Yes, it’s true.

I agree! We’re the same, yet different, aren’t we?

i agree. hmmm, so what’s the story behind this post?
July 18th, 2007 at 7:40 am
hmmm… I wonder who the nasty person was? Or were you forced to be such by circumstance?
July 18th, 2007 at 8:42 am
Oh my God! You’re a way better person than I am. Kung ako sinabihan nun wala na siyang kilay: sabay hirit “ayan may maikukwento ka na tungkol sa akin.” hehe
BTW, that’s no lady.

One thing I’ve noticed here in Pinas is that people can be quite tactless and offensive without realizing that they are insulting. Oh well I guess that is part of our cultural flaw as a people.

ay how mean. and yet you remained cool and composed kahit offended ka
July 18th, 2007 at 6:13 pm
Whether she meant it or not, the delivery was really offensive. You know how it is naman here, when old pals see you they say..”Uy ang taba mo ngayon.” when, in fact, they mean you look healthy. Either way, nakakabwisit pa din!! Buti hindi mo binatukan

there really are bunch of nitpickers who make comments hastily… they are the people who find it hard to know a person first before making a good picture/impression for a person (and its the unfair part of it)…let them be. see i’m making judgment here…*hehehe*

Hi just poppin’ in here and thought i’d comment. OMG so tactless of her naman to say that to you like you said you don’t know that person well. Some people are sometimes rude and don’t know they are already hurting other’s feeling. I have encountered tactless people too i also feel hurt.

Hi Toni! You know what I would’ve done? I’d have given her a copy of the Desiderata…oh wait – I’ve done that already. LOL.
July 18th, 2007 at 10:18 pm
ang sungit naman nun. if she found you boring just because you won’t wear that wrist band thingy, all the more when she meets me! i’m the goddess of bore!
July 19th, 2007 at 6:54 am
I can stand as valid witness: dear Toni is NOT a boring person.

Seems to me that she’s the boring one, coz’ she needs to resort to wearing a “red leather wristband with studs and spikes” so that she could look or appear interesting to others
Kudos to you Toni for your such a high EQ.
