Breakfast at Max’s
I’ve always liked Max’s Fried Chicken. Their Spring Chicken is a classic, especially when you dip it in a mix of Jufran Banana Catsup and Worcestershire sauce. Oooh, lovely! It was a treat therefore when I got free breakfast passes for Max’s Power Breakfast launch. That would be a great way to start this Monday!
My officemates and I trooped over to Max’s Greenbelt (which was hidden behind all the ongoing construction). Menu choices were: Tapa, Pepperoni Omelet, Sausage, Longganisa, Boneless Bangus, Adobo Flakes, and Tocino. Each meal comes with rice, 1 to 2 eggs, and your choice of drink: iced tea, brewed or instant coffee. They also served Champorado with tuyo (optional). Mitzi and I got the Tocino Meal (“tender pork seasoned with salt and pepper, pan fried with a tangy caramelized coating”), while Sheila ordered Bangus (“half-sized bangus marinated in garlic and vinegar for that real daing flavor”). And… what? No chicken in the menu? I was looking forward to that!

Sheila enjoyed her Boneless Bangus meal a lot. It was crispy and cooked just right. Mitzi and I were very much delighted with our Tocino meals too. But the runaway favorite was the creamy Triple Chocolate Champorado! It tasted sooooo good. It’s the real thing, not cooked from a box. I’d definitely order this again, and next time with an additional two pieces of tuyo (dried salted fish).

Guess who we saw savoring Max’s Power Breakfasts too? Ganns! He joined us during the latter part of the meal and regaled us with stories of his new stud, his lovely children and caring wife. Ganns is an old college friend of mine and a gradeschool friend of Sheila’s, so it was a nice breakfast reunion.

Ganns ordered Adobo Flakes (“…shredded bits of chicken pork adobo fried to crispy perfection.”). It was good, he said! It would’ve even been better with kesong puti. Ooh sarap!
While the food was very good, our food took sooooooooo long to arrive. Ganns’ Adobo Flakes took practically forever. And then there was the Champorado debate. One member of the staff advised us that the Champorado was not part of the breakfast meals and so our passes didn’t qualify for that meal. Huh? Two customers next to our table just had Champorado and used their passes, we said. So off he went and another waiter returned to our table saying we had to pay for the Champorado. Huh? So what good was the free breakfast pass if we had to pay for the meal, we asked. Irate moment coming up! After a while, the same waiter returned to us and advised us that the breakfast passes were good for the Champorado too. Oh-kay. At that point we were wondering if the management were the ones who needed coffee, not us. Wake up, wake up!
Save for another guy’s conflicting champorado advice and the slow service, our experience was pretty good. There was no loud music in the restaurant to aggressively jolt us into waking up; the lovely chatter of the customers was just right. We had a friendly waiter named Bob who helped us with the champorado mix-up. The food was delicious enough for us to return one of these days. It’s nearing lunch time already but I’m still full from their breakfast.
Something to consider though… shouldn’t there be a Max’s Fried Chicken breakfast equivalent? Say, chicken embotido breakfast or maybe they can create their own Chicken breakfast. After all, Max’s is known for their chicken and so it should be part of their breakfast offerings too! What do you think?
Well, Max’s folks, let me know if you do decide to add Chicken to your breakfast menu and I’ll give it a try. But as it is, Max’s Power Breakfast is a very good way to start your day. My ultimate recommendation is the Triple Chocolate Champorado. No day could go wrong if you start it with chocolate times three.
Kain na!

hmm, is it just coincidence that the service at Max’s suck? has sort of something to say too. or maybe the staff were just not well-oriented with the promo?

hmm, is it just coincidence that the service at Max’s suck? the J Spot has sort of something to say about the service too (or the lack of it). or maybe the staff were just not well-oriented with the promo?

Wow, those look yummy! I troop over to your blog and –tadah! see nothing but food… Waaah, I miss fried rice and fried food and pigging out and getting carbo-high! LOL..
Anyway, glad to know your Max’s Power Breakfast went great. So did Noemi’s. I guess Sexy Mom’s experience is an isolated one huh. Although the time element is a common denominator.
Have a great day!

just last night i saw an officemate of mine eating a combo meal of max (the chicken and pasta one), and i promised myself that i would order myself one for lunch today. kaya lang, i seemed to have forgotten about it and ordered baked ziti from sbarro. bukas na talaga.

I don’t know kung talagang ganyan lagi ang Max’s. Actually, kapag talagang gutom na ako never kaming kumain sa Max’s dahil ang bagal ng service, sa halos lahat ng areas na na-try na namin ha. Pero muka talagang masarap ang breakfast meals nila.

good your experience was ok. ours at the quezon memorial circle was entirely different. i guess will have to try the breakfast meals in another branch, to get a real good review of their meals.
oh, yes, my sons liked the champorado–when hot.
