With Friends

Friendship Mosaic My college barkada and I met up last Friday night for a quick dinner at Trattoria. We haven’t been together as a group since Rowie’s June wedding so this was a night to look forward to. (Sadly, Ganns couldn’t make it due to a previous engagement, and Ordo and Chiqui are in the States.) We had delicious pizza, appetizers and pasta. Again, not much food pics as we gobbled up the food as soon as it was presented to us. In that pic where I’m in, B and I split our pasta orders. Hating kapatid! Best of both orders! The night was full of lively conversation (without much contribution from me, who was super tired), and lots of smiles and laughs (ah, that I contributed to).

I was looking around the table and realized how much we’ve changed. Wait, let me correct that. I realized how much we’ve grown. The characters were still the same (intellectual R, spunky A, quiet me, humorous E, witty B), but the discussions were much different. There was talk on politics (all sorts of policies, the impact of Pacquiao’s potential win/loss, Republicans vs. Democrats, etc.), household stuff (purchasing gas ranges, cleaning refs, living arrangements, etc.), college people (who’s dating who, who’s married, etc.), the youth today (and that topic officially marks us as OLD) … gosh.

While we don’t regularly meet up, this is one group of friends I know that will stick together as the years go by. Someday I know we’ll all meet with kids in tow, some in strollers, some in carriers. Then we’ll talk about college educational plans and who our kids are dating (oh no!). Someday I know we’ll all meet with pictures of grandkids which we’ll gladly take out of our wallets for some show and tell. Then we’ll talk about our latest plans since retirement and where we can celebrate our 50th friendship anniversary. That’s something to look forward to!
