Slumber Party!

Front
I was invited by a 10-year-old to a slumber party. :)

Last summer, my cousine Maxine planned a slumber party. Never mind if our group was composed of three 20-something girls and one 10-year old. We all giggled like school girls the whole day.

The Invitation

Our Slumber Party Weekend kicked off with a great lunch, prepared by my Mom. While we ate our meals, we threw lines from Maxine’s Italian dictionary and phrase book. She’s into learning the language, so cute! We got a huge kick playing waiter-and-customer and collapsed in giggles when I kidded her by ordering a “scarafaggio.” Sounds fancy but it means cockroach or beetle in Italian. Heehee. Ah, that was a good laugh.

Slumber Party Games

After lunch, we played a lot of board games. We played Trouble, Monkeys, The Game of Life and Sweet Valley High. It was so much fun! I haven’t giggled like a school girl in ages. We took a nap in the afternoon and then played more boardgames till past midnight.

More Slumber Party Games. (1) Maxine tries her hand at the Monkeys game. (2) Yeah! We can switch clothes! (3) I played Jessica Wakefield. (4) I didn't know Trouble could be exciting!

One of the highlights of the weekend was switching clothes with Maxine. It was so funny! We share the same shoe size so it was no surprise when she wanted to try on my shoes. Then we thought of trying on each other’s clothes too. See the upper right pic for the result! It was hilarious. We fit into each other’s clothes quite well. Now I know I don’t have to worry about forgetting a change of clothes when I sleep over at her place next time!

The next day, Maxine went swimming and afterwards we had our friendship bracelet-making session. It was sad having to say bye-bye for the weekend. We all had a great time.

The back part of her invitation. Isn't it so obvious Maxine's a dog lover? :)

This slumber party was one of the highlights of my summer. It’s so great to have a slumber party with a 10-year-old! She kept my sisters and I in stitches and made us feel like tweens too. There were no facial masks to be donned and ice cream to eat while we complained about boys. Uh-uh! This was pure, childlike, unadulterated fun. I look forward to doing this again! So, always say yes to a slumber party invitation from a 10-year-old! You wont regret it.

Oh my god!! The Sweet Valley High gameboard! I loved that game! I remember getting it on Christmas when I was in 5th grade and in my excitement, I accidentally let out a “shit!” My dad was suprised I knew how to curse. Even my guy playmates played that game with me and my sister.

Speaking of sleepovers, my sister and I used to hold sleepovers at our house too! But then, we’d invite the next door neighbors… 2 guys and 1 tomboy (who later turned out to be a lesbian). We watched laser discs, played games like Monopoly, Cluedo, Scrabble and Pictionary.

Hmmm, I think I’ll throw a slumber party for my 26th birthday and invite my girlfriends.
