LP 10: Condensed Milk Sandwich (Food Memories from Your Childhood)

LP 10: Condensed Milk Sandwich (Food Memories from Your Childhood)

This 10th issue of Lasang Pinoy gave me an excuse to indulge in one of my favorite childhood snacks — the condensed milk sandwich.

I remember running to the dining room after school, then hastily parting a pan de sal (which I also did for this LP, hence the uneven grouch-like look of the bread!), drizzling it with Carnation or Alaska condensed milk and then biting into the sweet, gooey heaven. Yummmmm. There was also a chocolate condensed milk version available then. That made a great sandwich too.

This one’s a classic though. Childhood meriendas were the best!

seriously – i think it’s only filipino’s who does this – i tried to do it one time here in oz, and friends thought it was weird yet interesting and super yummy too.

hmmm calorie and carb laden merienda – eh, i don’t care, masarap eh :)

  9. JMom Says:

Oh do I ever remember! It’s still my fave snack to this day. I always keep a can in the pantry for emergencies ;-)

  12. Jerome Daclison Says:

  14. watson Says:

oo nga no Toni? nakalimutan ko na yung chocolate-flavored version nung condensada. gawa rin namin yung tinapay na ganyan. do your kids have that as well?

  15. lani Says:

Isa pa akong dapat isama sa list ng makakalimutin, i don’t remember the chocolate-flavored condensada. Well, ito ang favorite ng aking hubby at pati na rin ng aking anakis. Nakikita sa ama kaya naenjoy na rin ng anak ko.

  16. liza Says:

wow! tagal ko na di na-visit blog mo & the first thing i see, the pandesal & condensed milk! love that too when i was a kid. may variation pa yan. if walang condensed milk, evaporated milk na lang, tapos lagyan mo ng sugar. mix mo lang and isawsaw ang mainit-init na pandesal. yummy! sarap maging bata ano! :D

  17. tintin Says:

hi toni! it’s been so long since i last visited your blog. i’ve been so busy kasi with the move and i had no yaya for my son these past two weeks. i miss reading your blog! and i’m glad to have found the time to visit again. anyway, this post brought back memories of our family’s own version of condensed milk sandwich. my dad would pressure cook an unopened can of condensed milk which would become all gooey and brown and really yummy! we would use it as filling for bread or eat it straight from the can. sarap! yum! yum!

  18. ajay Says:

pan de sal with condensed milk is the best!!! silly me, i’ve forgotten to give this to my kids…thanks for this reminder:)

  19. ces Says:

    hi toni!
this would’ve been my hubby’s entry if ever! he told me his lola used to boil the can for hours to caramelize the milk before putting it on his bread!

  20. Marnie Says:

I had my condensed milk sandwich using pan americano.yummy!
A classmate in grade 4 put powdered Nido instant milk in his pan de sal. never tried this one, sounds gross and looked even grosser (every time he bit into his sandwich, a puff of powdered milk came out).

  21. Cocinero Says:

Hey Toni, I remember those too. Only during our time it was Liberty condensada. This also brings back memories of how our yaya would mix sugar and butter with bread and toast it in the oven. Thank you for participating.
    CIAO!

  22. watson Says:

wahahaha oo nga! May chocolate-flavored version ng condensed milk noon! I love this merienda.

  23. Irene Says:

Oh my goodness this brings back childhood memories. Funny I tell my friends about this great concoction and they look at me in disbelief…I tell them don’t knock it till’ you try it!

  24. u8mypinkcookies Says:

i love this too! childhood memories.. hot pandesal w/ condensed milk! yummmmm :)
