Sounds like a very fun birthday! I’ve been wanting to try Shabu- shabu with A. There was a resto in the Fort but it closed down na. We had a very bad experience in that resto. On it’s first day, my co- managers and my bosses and I decided to have dinner there first before having our weekly manager’s meeting. My God! When the waitstaff turned on the burners, lumiyab siya! As in we saw blue flame explode under the table! Buti na lang, nobody got hurt or burned! Everybody was quick enough to jump away from the table. Then, all our orders were delayed, considering there were only 5 tables. We were done eating na when our additional soup for the shabu- shabu came. We were done eating na when the rice finally came! And when we asked for our bill, they handed us our order slips without any bill! As in parang sinabi na rin sa amin, kayo na lang mag compute!
Being in the resto business, we know we should cut them some slack and be more understanding. It IS their first day after all. But we thought it was all too much. I never went to any Shabu- shabu resto after (or maybe because I don’t know where to go) because of that explosion incident.
Which resto did you go? I wanna try it out!
Oh, and I also tag you with the book survey.

August 5th, 2005 at 8:44 am
paz : Yes it should! But I wouldn’t mind if it doesn’t.
annabanana : Had a great time. Cheers to you too!
denden : Yeah! An hour and a half. The secret is I watch a film on TV while working out so I am oblivious to the time!
Cat : Try the Mini Shabu-Shabu in Greenhills Shopping Center. They use electric stoves, not gas ranges which are more dangerous (hence your experience!) The service in the Greenhils branch hasn’t disappointed me so I highly recommend it to you! Thanks for the tag! Will answer later!
sha : Hehehe ganda thanks to my husband who planned it all! Ano, sunod na ako diyan sa Cannes? Hehehe.
mare : Yummy ang shabu-shabu ‘no!
AnP : Salamat!!!

August 5th, 2005 at 1:12 pm
Toni, belated happy birthday sa yo! Looks like you had a grand time. Uy, pwede humingi ng secret mo? Paano mo ginawa yang collage of photos? Ang cool kasi.
August 5th, 2005 at 2:10 pm
watson: I emailed you my secret hehehe.
santos: I had a great day indeed! Thanks for the greeting!
eye: More wacky! Love that!!!
jojo: Super aliw yun picture booth! Try niyo with your little princess.
Meron pang “wind” option — a breeze will run through the booth so fly away ang effect ng hair mo! Galing! Sadly short ang hair ko so di ko na-feel talaga ang wind running thru my hair haha!
August 5th, 2005 at 10:35 pm
ooooooooooooooooooooooooh, i love the pictures! and the captions too! if i were in the phils then, you’d surely see me in all the places you went. those are my favorite hang out places in manila.
it was such a happy birthday, no greeting can express it well – such full of love reflected.
August 6th, 2005 at 3:35 am
looks like you had a fabulous fun-filled birthday! the pics rocked!
by the way, what is “sate” ? just wondering. we have shabu-shabu joints here too, but i’ve actually never been to one! i’ll make sure to try it!

beautiful birthday pics, toni! belated, belated!!
August 6th, 2005 at 2:39 pm
hi toni. it seemed like you had a blast on your birthday — what caught my attention was that yummy dessert — sa cafe breton ba yan????? yummmm!!! I should get a list from you of the restos and shops to go to para maximised ang bakasyon ko! I’ll email you privately! mwah!
August 7th, 2005 at 1:42 pm
Junnie : I did the best I could with the pictures to capture all the fun but sometimes pictures can’t say it all pala hahaha!
kat : From the website I found…
saté; satay
[sah-TAY]
An Indonesian favorite consisting of small marinated cubes of meat, fish or poultry threaded on skewers and grilled or broiled. Saté is usually served with a spicy peanut sauce. It’s a favorite snack food but is also often served for an appetizer and sometimes as a main dish.
I used the term loosely though hahaha! I call any sauce that’s a bit spicy “sate.”
I wasn’t into shabu-shabu joints before I met my husband but now I love those places! Do try eating at one for experience.
BabyPink : Hehehe sige I’ll say hi to Master for ya!
petite : Yes, that’s how I prefer it most of the time! So much better than big parties and I run into people who I don’t know haha!
tin : Thanks tin!!!
Christine : Crepes Francais was the name of the restaurant we ate in
I’ll wait for your email!!!
August 12th, 2005 at 2:09 pm
